CCP hair concepts

I dug this one out of the pile of old stuff, because I think it is a perfect example of what most of concept art work is about. It is about providing the 3D modellers with clear concepts of what they are going to model.

This one was sent to an outsourcing company in China, but I seem to remember, that our senior character artist spent so much time correcting mistakes, that we might actually have saved time doing it in house.

EVE character dump

So this last year I worked as a concept artist for CCP, doing, among other things, concepts for Characters. Mostly the costumes .
The costumes had to be interchangeable between different races, and in different colors. So that was a bit of a challenge, because that ment that I could not go too far in one direction with one costume, because that would mean that it would not match up with the rest of the costumes, and at the same time I had to convey the different cultures for each of the races, and of course make something cool. But it was a lot of fun.
I allways try to broarden my skillset, but I somehow allways end up drawing characters.
For each of the costumes, I had to come up with a highly detailed costume sheet, which I am only gonna show one example of here, so that the outsourcing company in China, who was actually going to build them in 3D had the most help that we could give them. This was timeconsuming, and very difficult, and I am not sure that all that effort really paid off, with all the fixing that we had to do inhouse anyway. But we got it done, and I think the end result looks great. Look up EVE incarna character creator on youtube if you want to see it in action. Or better yet, bo and buy a subscription to EVE.

Character

Sometimes you have to design "normal" clothes for computer game characters. Average Joe type of stuff. It can be a lot of fun, and you have to start thinking about the designs as clothes to be worn by everyday people, and not some elaborate, impractical costumes.
These were never used, but served well as a sort of idea generation.

Dinogirl

This is not a sketch, but since I forgot how to update my website (sigh!), I figured I would just post it here.

Poses

What can I say. I like to paint girls. I think I tried to give the piece an "Ashley Wood" sort of feeling. I love that guy's work.

Faces

I love to draw faces. I am not sure why, but I bet that there's some deep psychological connection involved. I like to imagine a certain type of personality, and what that person would look like. I think I often, unconsciously, add some of my own features. I like to pretend that I am assembling the cast of a story. What personalities will play well with, and against each other. It's fun.

Cowgirl

This is not really a sketch. I did it a while back, and I don't really remember why. I must have seen a cowboy flick or something, Also, I enjoy experimenting with weird colors. Pink and purple in this case.
